getting picky about plums
Those luscious plums I mentioned previously became out of reach very quickly. (Not to be picky, but ours are the most delicious plums (and I am not a plum lover.) We picked all the ones we could reach and given the location of our tree - near the edge or the retaining wall, so half the tree hangs over our chicken coop and half over the lower part of the yard - we were having trouble reaching. Mike whipped out a fruit picker using a can and a short pole, which he lashed to a really long bamboo pole. He lashed it to the long pole instead of attaching it directly to the bamboo, so that at the end of the season, we can take it apart easily and not have a massive pole hanging around. Clever guy. It works fabulously. 10 minutes in, we had two large colanders filled with plums and more left to pick. If only we had a #10 can....
